Azerbaijan reveals cause for helicopter crash of State Border Service

The investigation results revealed that the helicopter of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan crashed due to a pilot error, First Deputy Prosecutor General, State Counselor of Justice of the III class Elchin Mammadov said during a briefing on Dec. 20, AzVision.az reports.

The helicopter crashed 17 minutes after taking off due to a pilot error.

According to the analysis of the helicopter's flight parameters in the automatic registration system, the cause of the accident was the early lowering of the "Shag-Gas" support (general steering support of the leading wing) without taking into account the height of the pilots, increasing the tangent angle more than the norm, incorrect calculation of wind direction and power. This caused a sudden decrease in the number of cycles, speed, and altitude of the engine, which made the tail of the helicopter, which was out of control, crash onto the ground and break. The ammunition storage part on the right wing of the helicopter crashed onto the ground, then the left side slid to the ground, the helicopter detached from the ground due to a moving propeller and hit the ground again on the left side. As a result, a fire broke out when fuel tanks exploded.

On November 30, fourteen people were killed and two others were injured in a crash of a helicopter belonging to the Azerbaijani State Border Guard Service at the Garaheybat airfield in the Khizi district on November 30 at about 10:40 (GMT +4).

On the fact of the helicopter crash, the Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan has initiated a criminal case under Article 352.2 (negligent violation of the rules of flight and preparation for flight, leading to the death of two or more persons) and other articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
